This comprehensive 24-hour Nursing Leadership Training Program is designed to assist newly hired or promoted nurse leaders (Assistant Director of Nursing/Director of Nursing) or any nurse who is interested in becoming a nurse leader to become proficient in effective management and clinical leadership. It will include training competencies identified as critical areas of managerial and leadership performance. Additionally, this training program will help develop valuable working relationships with key resource people within the facility or organization. The course will include the basic core competencies for all new nurse leaders; overview of SNF demographics and history; OBRA; Requirements of Participation; clear explanation of the role of the DON and key partners; compliance with regulatory requirements; risk management; Title 22 versus CMS; Survey Process overview; Reimbursement Framework; basic HR practices, communication skills, hiring/counseling/terminating employees, coaching, orientation, training, staff satisfaction, staff retention/turnover; Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Overview; person directed care strategies, resident and family satisfaction, managing complaints, role Ombudsman, residents' right, collaboration with other departments: rehabilitation, social services, activities, nutritional services, etc. Additionally, students will learn principles of regulatory survey managements; preparation tasks daily/weekly prior to actual survey; strategies before and during survey; survey management and how to effectively survive survey. Also, we will go over components of an effective Plan of Care per regulatory requirement; how to write an acceptable POC; understanding compliance dates and schedule for resurvey; and Informal Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, its requirements, and deadline; how to effectively write an acceptable IDR; samples of IDRs. The course will also include census development strategies and fiscal management as a nurse leader.
The course is designed with lectures/discussions, Q&A, practice tests/exercises, and a final examination. Upon completion of the course, you will have the opportunity to take the final exam. When you’ve completed the final exam, you will be able to receive a certificate of completion.
